Environmental
Education at LMC!
Lutheran
Memorial Camp is a year-round facility that is a part of the
Lutheran Outdoor Ministries in Ohio (LOMO). The property is
comprised of 417 acres of a variety of habitats: beech-maple
forest, pine forest, meadow, open fields, streams, and a small
pond. Facilities include a winterized lodge, winterized log
cabins with bunk beds, Priebe Retreat Center, sport and play
areas, Pioneer Homestead Village Site, and a Family Campground.
The Camp was established in 1948 as a
youth summer camp. Programming then expanded to include
families, senior citizens, retreat groups, physically and or
mentally handicapped, and student groups. The Residential
Environmental Education program was established in 1976.
Since that time, this program has grown immensely in
popularity and serves over 60 public and parochial schools
throughout Ohio.
LMC is a classroom in outdoor settings,
providing unique educational opportunities for public and
parochial schools. Our goal is to present students with
hands-on experiences to complement and enhance classroom
education.

Program
A 2 to 5 day residential program combines the expertise of
the LMC professional staff with the knowledge and skills of
the school staff. Teachers are given an opportunity to teach
their students in smaller groups in an outdoor setting. The
daily schedule is tailored to meet student needs and provide
a wealth of shared experiences.
Curriculum
The curriculum complements school requirements in science,
math, language, arts, and social studies. Complete detailed
lesson plans are available to teachers. The lessons make
full use of the beech-maple forest, meadows, fields, pine
forest, streams, pond, and lake on camp property. Also
available are teaching materials, planning guide, program
staff, and pre-camp planning visitation.

God has
created an abundantly diverse world and given people the
responsibility to care for it. Using resources wisely and to
share abundantly its joys are signs of a good steward. Educating
others in these matters is part of LMC’s mission statement and
ministry.
Residential
and field trip programs are available for public, private and
home schools. Our curriculum is designed to aid educators in
meeting Ohio’s State proficiencies. Christian schools receive an
added bonus of having classes and recreational activities taught
by a Christian educational staff. This allows devotions, Bible
studies and worship opportunities to be customized for your
group. Studies may include 1810 history, nature studies, group
cooperation skills or a trip to the cemetery. |
